Bellevue, IA is excellent to watch the wildlife come in and land.  Excellent appetizers, and music most weekends, about 10 miles away.

Dubuque, IA, everything is handmade, third generation, the Hot Spaghetti and Spaghetti with meat sauce is excellent.

Galena, ILL, a 35 minute drive.  Excellent Spaghetti with meatball and pizza.  If you plan to visit Galena this is a must stop.

Dubuque, IA.  A tavern with a stuff animals including a Polar Bear.  The best cheese burgers and hot ham sandwich.  Dont expect french fries, or a salad, maybe a bag of Cheetoe’s very affordable, very unique.

Bellevue, IA if you love Jazz and BBQ this is the place for you.  Setup in an old historic mill, very cool experience.  Music can get loud.
